Virginia:

 

1607 - The first of the English settlers landed in The New World at Jamestown, Virginia.

 

 

 

1609-1610 - It was “Starving Time” in the colonies; 435 of 500 people died due  to the harsh conditions.  One man ate  his wife in a “powdered wife” meal.

 

 

 

1612 - Tobacco is planted for the first time in Virginia.

 

 

 

1614 - Pocahontas married John Rolfe.

 

 

 

1619 - The House of Burgesses, Virginia’s  first legislative assembly was formed.

 

 

 

1754 - George Washington acquires Mount Vernon by lease from Lawrence Washington’s widow, Anne Fairfax Washington.

 

 

 

1775 - George Washington is appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.

 

 

 

1789 - 97 - George Washington serves as President of the United States.
